READING COMPREHENSION : RECOUNT TEXT 1

Hello friends. It is nice to see you and to share one of my unforgettable experiences. But before I begin, let me tell you about myself. My name is Samantha Schnitzler. My father is a Germany. He passed away seven years ago, when I was still nine years old. We lived in Dublin on that time. After my father’s death, my mother took me and my younger brother and sister to Bournemouth, a small city in Britain. Here, she met George Zachary, a rich farmer. He had tens of sheep, horse, cow, hen, and goose. My mother fell in love with him, and after six months of dating, they decided to get married. We lived happily. I spent my days by going to a good school from morning until afternoon, and from afternoon until evening, I play with the livestock. Sometimes I rode a horse, trotting around the farm or went to the neighboring village. In another day, I helped the milkmen milking the cows or collected the eggs. My life was so beautiful, until when I was fourteen years old, everything changed. I was running after the gooses on that evening. I was so enthusiastic on that time, so I didn’t see that there was a hole on the ground. My left leg slipped into it. I stumbled, and my head hit a stone. I fell unconscious. One of the milkmen brought me back to the house, and Mommy called a doctor. Luckily, I didn’t get any serious injury. Yeah, I didn’t get any wound. But there was something changed in me.

After that accident, I could hear voices that other people could not hear. It began with a woman’s voice calling my name. At first, I thought it was Mommy who called me. But when I asked her, they told me that she didn’t say anything. In another day, I heard a child crying. I thought it was Charlotte, my six years old sister. But when I rushed to her room, she was laughing cheerfully with her panda doll. But I kept hearing the crying. I was sure that it was in my house because I could hear it clearly. When I asked Mommy about it, she said that she heard nothing. I tried to assure her, but she laughed and told me that I was just too tired and asked me to go to bed earlier. Daddy also didn’t believe me. So I kept hearing those mysterious voices. I almost couldn’t sleep at night because those sounds kept disturbing me, even worse. I always got sleepy at school, and I couldn’t concentrate well. I failed almost all of the subjects because those mysterious voices are clearer than my teachers’. Daddy decided to bring me home, and he told the teacher that I would never come to school anymore. He even presumed that I was crazy. This abnormality started ruining my life. I thought it was the worst thing that I had to experience, but what happened next, brought me to danger; a great danger that can kill me and also my family.

When I was fifteen, I started to see what other people couldn’t see. It was Sunday morning. All of the workers were in holiday. I woke up late and went to the kitchen to prepare the breakfast. I jumped and almost screamed when I saw an old woman standing at the corner. She was staring at me. I had never seen her before. I directly called my mom, but when she came, the old lady had gone. Once I saw a young boy. I know it was only I who could see him because no one of the workers realized his existence. This young boy brought a strand of rope and kept walking behind one of the milkmen. A week after, we found the milkman dead, hanging his neck on one branch of a tree. Among the people who wanted to help him, I saw that young boy. He smiled at me, and then he was lost. I howled terribly on that time, but, still I couldn’t tell anyone what happened before. Two months later, I saw a beautiful young lady. She wore a white wedding gown. Every time we met, she always hummed “Ave Maria”, one of the wedding songs. Oh no! She walked behind Daddy all the time. I wanted to let him know, but I really didn’t know how to say it. Two weeks later, I heard Mommy screaming from the down stair. I ran as quickly as I could, and I found Daddy was lying on the floor. He was dead. I saw he was grasping something, and when I opened his hand, I found two wedding rings and a pendant with two pictures in it; Daddy and that young lady.
Later we found out that the young lady was Daddy’s fiancée who had passed away several years ago. I felt deeply sorry for Daddy’s death. I wish I had told him before. In deep grief, I decided to leave that farm house. I thought I had to stay away from my beloved people so I wouldn’t put them in danger, even though actually I was not sure if it was because of me. By train, I left to Middlesbrough, start my new life by being a waitress in a coffee shop. I didn’t earn a lot, indeed, but at least I didn’t need to feel afraid every time I knew that my family was in danger. I am still able to hear voices that other people cannot hear. I am still able to see what other people cannot see. I am not afraid anymore with my paranormal ability, but I feel very sad every time I know that someone will die when I saw a creature following him. Still, I couldn’t tell anyone about it because I’m sure that they will laugh at me, or even send me to a mental hospital. How about you? Do you believe in my story? Well, it doesn’t matter if you don’t believe it. It doesn’t matter if you laugh at me or think that I am crazy. I feel glad that I can share you my experience. I hope you enjoy reading it. By the way, I see an ancient soldier behind you. He has been following you for these three days. I don’t mean to make you afraid, but let me give you an advice, be careful. Your life might be in a great danger. See you later in my another story, of course if you are still alive on that time. Goodbye.
